Strengthening Kenya’s Agricultural Systems with RTI International

June 2023

More than 75 percent of Kenyans rely on agriculture to make a living. Yet, in the country of 48 million people, the process of growing, harvesting and transporting food products from farm to table is often cumbersome, leading to increased food insecurity and trapping millions of Kenyans in a never-ending cycle of subsistence farming without the prospect of meaningful profits.

The Feed the Future Kenya Crops and Dairy Market Systems Activity (KCDMS) addresses these challenges by strengthening Kenya's agricultural market systems to increase the productivity and market potential of smallholder farms.

Since 2017, RTI and KCMS has worked with more than 3,800 local partners in 12 counties in eastern and western Kenya.

From educating rural farmers on new growing technologies, to linking horticulture business to more competitive markets, to increasing the representation of women and youth in farming operations and bolstering milk yields by introducing more productive breeds of cows to local dairy populations, KCDMS is dedicated to ending poverty and hunger by unlocking Kenya’s full agricultural potential.
